Warwickshire County Cricket Club got the win they needed to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round of the CB40 competition with a 51 run win over Hampshire.

At Edgbaston, on former players day, in a must win game for Warwickshire, they won the toss and batted first.

With the first ball of the third over, Varun Chopra was caught by Adams. Neil Carter and Will Porterfield came together. They put on sixty seven before Carter, who had made a quick fire 53 from 36 balls, was given out lbw to to Briggs.

Will Porterfield was next to go after making 41 from 46 balls when he was caught off the bowling of former Warwickshire player Imran Tahir.

Tim Ambrose added thirteen to the Warwickshire score before Jim Troughton and Rikki Clarke came together. The pair took Warwicks past the two hundred mark but on 203, The Warwicks skipper from Stratford, who had made 61 from 62 balls was caught to give Tahir a second wicket.

Barker went for four and Ant Botha one before Clarke's innings of 63 from 47 balls including eight fours and a six, was ended when he was caught

Chris Woakes steered Warwicks through to the end of their forty overs which ended with them on 273-8.

When Hampshire batted, Warwicks took the early advantage when captain Jimmy Adams was out caught by Chopra off the bowling of Woakes for 14 with 22 runs on the board.

Sean Ervine came in to partner James Vince and they swung the game back into their side's favour with a second wicket stand of 116 which ended when Ervine was given out lbw to Jeetan Patel.

That wicket lifted Warwicks and a third came nine runs later when Carberry was caught.

With the score on 154, Vince conceded his wicket after making 82 from 95 balls when Patel had him lbw. Patel then caught and bowled Dawson and after Woakes had bowled Mascaranhas, he caught Howell who had made 17.

By now, Hants were behind the required run rate and Warwicks were able to mop up the tail cheaply and take the 51 run victory they needed.
