Warwickshire County Cricket Club got the T20 victory they needed at Northamptonshire with a six wicket victory

Warwicks won the toss at Northampton and put the home side into bat. It proved a wise move as Northants had only make seven when Chris Woakes struck to have Newton caught behind by Tim Ambrose.

The home side doubled their run tally before Woakes struck again, getting Wakeley caught by Barker who had Hall caught by Carter.

Jeetan Patel came in and took the wickets of Peters, Botha who top-scored with 28 and David Willey to record figures of 3-19 from his four overs.

The wicket of Willey left Northampton on 77-8 and after Darren Maddy's last over, the final over of the innings was bowled by Keith Barker.

He bowled two no balls and a wide but then took two wickets to see Northamptonshire all out for 96 - the lowest ever T20 total conceeded by The Bears.

Warwicks lost Neil Carter without scoring but went on to outscore their opponents in the power play for the first time this season as Chopra and Porterfield moved the score on.

Porterfield was out for 20, stumped by Murphy and after Darren Maddy hit the first six of the match, Warwicks lost a third wicket thanks to a mix up seeing Varun Chopra run out for 34.

They needed only sixteen from four overs and after Maddy had completed his 2,000th T20 run, he was caught by Wakeley for 26.

After 18.2 overs, it was victory to Warwickshire when Jim Troughton who made 13 not out, hit the winning runs to give Warwicks a six wicket win.

Warwickshire are back in action on Friday when they take on Worcestershire at Edgbaston. Commentary as always is available on the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire website.
