Van Poppel Wins Arctic Race Of Norway Stage Two

Team Sky's Danny Van Poppel, has won the Arctic Race Of Norway second stage.

Katusha's Alexander Kristoff was the leader for this second 198.5km stage from Mo I Rana to Sandnessjøen.

Six riders in Thomson, Aas Stien, Van Melsen, Kirch, Hagen & Brekke Fløtten broke away taking a forty second lead after nine kilometres.

They extended that lead to 4.24  with Kevin Van Melsen of Wanty Group taking the Korgfjellet climb and Aas Stien taking the three points at the Mosjoen sprint.

With 83kms to go, the gap was down to three minutes as Aas Stien took the next sprint at Leland.

Going through Helgeland and the gap was down to 1.43 as Aas Stien took more points by winning the sprint at Sandnessjøen.

Next was the climb at Kleivskaret and Van Melsen took the three points before the peloton put th hammer down and rounded up the escapers with twelve kilometres to go.

Vincente Reynes of IAM Cycling took the final climb before the sprint came with Danny Van Poppel of Team Sky taking the win in 4.46.16 ahead of John Degenkolb and Moreno Hofland.

Danny Van Poppel now leads the race.
