Tim Wellens Wins Giro Stage Six

Tim Wellens of Lotto Soudal has won the sixth stage of the Giro D'Italia.

This stage was the first of the race with an uphill finish and was over 157kms from Ponte to Roccaraso (Aremogna).

Alessandro Bisolti (Nippo - Vini Fantini), Eugert Zhupa (Wilier Trestina-Southeast) and Alexandr Kolobnev (Gazprom-Rusvelo) who were the first to break with Kolobnev taking the first intermediate sprint.

This trio got 6.03 ahead before they were joined by Lotto Soudal duo of Pim Ligthart and Tim Wellens. 

Their lead went out to seven minutes and then 8.51 and were still 4.41 ahead with 13.2kms left.

Jacob Fuglsang put in an attack and caught up to Lithgart who dropped off the back of the breakaway which had been shelled at the other end by Tim Wellens who took the penultimate climb.

Jacob Fuglsang and Kanstantsin Siutsou went after Wellens. but the Belgian was under the flam rouge and kept going to take the win in 4.40.05.

Tom Dumoulin, the race leader has put in a great ride late on and he behind Fuglsang and Zacharin to increase his GC lead.
