Neil Carter took three wickets for Warwickshire on the opening day of the County Championship game against Hampshire at Edgbaston.

Carter struck early taking two early wickets to see Adams and Benham out with eighteen runs scored.

The third wicket pairing of Michael Carberry and McKenzie added forty three runs before the latter was caught by Trott for 13.

Carberry passed the fifty mark with a four but when Carter bowled again, he had Vince trapped lbw for 6.

Hampshire started the second session on 86-4 and added 34 more runs before Carberry was out, caught by Ian Westwood for 74.

However, the second half of the innings was a lot better for the visitors. Jon Trott took the wicket of Pothas but Sean Irvine was making runs to leave Hampshire 270-7 with twenty overs remaining.

Irvine was caught off the bowling of Clarke after making seventy runs, then they picked up another wicket when Griffiths was bowled, to give Warwicks their third bowling point.

Iram Tahir took the final catch to remove Tomlinson for 20 and see Hampshire 283 all out.

With the Warwicks total on two, skipper Ian Westwood was bowled by an unplayable daisy cutter for a duck.

Warwicks closed on 45-1
