Bury born Simon Yates of Orica Bikeexchange won the Prueba Villafranca-Ordizia Klasika in Spain on Monday.
A 167km race in the Basque Country with seven climbs saw Yates took the win and become the first British rider to win the race which has been won by the likes of Alejandro Valverde and Joaquim Rodriquez beating defending champion Angel Madrazo (Caja Rural) and Alexander Vdovin (Lokosphinx) in third.
British climber Hugh Carthy (Caja Rural) finishd fifth.
