Simmonds Retains British Women's Time Trial Crown

Hayley Simmonds has retained her British Women's Time Trial Champion's title after taking the victory at the British National Championships in Stockton On Tees.

On a 7.2 mile (11.6km) course which was to be completed three times and one which saw the riders starting and finishing on the High Street in Stockton town centre and riding up the A11135, A1130 and on to Queen Elizabeth Way, over the River Tees before turning back and heading towards Stockton town centre to complete the lap, forty six riders took to the course with Starley Racing's Alice Lethbridge one of the first to go.

Elizabeth Jane Harris of Podium Ambition set an early time of 50 minutes and 58 seconds which lasted until Julia Shaw become the first rider to finish in under fifty minutes when she set a time of 49:39.915.
 
No sooner had Shaw recorded that time and Claire Rose smashed it completing the course a minute and thirty three seconds clear in a time of 48:06.315.
 
Molly Weaver who had done well in the Women's Tour finished in 49.53.320 and Lotto Soudal's Emma Pooley finished in 48.33.455
 
Last on the course was Hayley Simmonds and the reigning champion made sure that she was not going to relinguish her crown when flew home in 47:33.357 to take the win.
