Peter Sagan Wins The GP Quebec

World Champion Peter Sagan has won the seventh Grand Prix Quebec.

This World Tour race featured the Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet and World Champion Peter Sagan and saw 168 riders start.

Lars Bak, Maxim Belokov, Valerio Agnoli, Twan Castelijns, Matt Brammeier, Alexandre Pichot were the first go clear and they were three minutes ahead of the peloton and 45 seconds ahead of the chasing Matteo Del Cin after Jan Barta and Nicholas Masbourian had dropped him and made it into the lead group.

After two 12.6km laps, the gap had gone out to 4.25 to the peloton and 4.10 with four laps completed.

At the half race distance and after one hundred kilometres of racing, the gap had dropped to 3.25.

Masbourian took the KOM climb on lap nine before the lead that Bak, Belkov, Agnoli, Castelijns, Brammeier, Pichot, Barta, Masbourian had over the pack dropped again to 2:40 with 75 kms to go.

With eleven laps raced, the lead was just over two minutes but the peloton smelt blood and soon had their quarry apart from Bak who took the next KOM points before being reeled in.

Luke Rowe of Team Sky and Julien Alaphillipe took over on the front, taking a fifteen second lead with three laps to go.

Both had been caught with 174kms gone and Paul Voss lead going into the final lap.

Oliver Naesen took over but Tinkoff had brought him back with three kilometres left.

The attacks were not finished with and Julian Alpahilippe, Matteo Trentin and Gianni Moscon tried to get clear with Moscon dropping the others and going solo with 1.5kms left.

Uran caught and passed Moscon as the attacks continued under the flam rouge.

Up came Peter Sagan and he took the victory ahead of Greg Van Avermaet and Anthony Roux.
