Drapac's Peter Koning has won the third stage of the Tour De San Luis in Argentina.

Stage three was from Potrero de los Funes to La Punta / El Cabildo and was 131 kilometres long and saw Elías Tello, Gonzalo Nájar, Emmanuel Guevara and Peter Koning make the first break of the day with Tello, ahead of Najar and Guevera taking the KOM points as the race passed through the La Florida resort.

They had a lead of six minutes over the peloton with 74.8kms to go and three minutes over Rojas from the Costa Rican team.

Twenty five kilometres later and the gap was down to 5.30, so Tinkoff sent two riders to the front to control the speed of the peloton.

Those in the break tried to attack each other with forty kilometres left and ten kilometres later, Peter Koning of Drapac tried to give Tello and Guevara who were chasing him, the slip whilst Najar suffered a mechanical as they headed towards the  second category El Mirador del Potrero climb.

On to the Mirador del Potrero climb and the peloton was stretched out and there was a crash but it did not affect Koning, who was ploughing on regardless followed by Tello and Guevara, and Koning took the points.

However, a group of fifteen were closing in fast and they caught the chasers and went after Koning who had seven kilometres left.

Koning kept going and he rode away to take a superb victory with race leader Fernando Gaviria finishing in second place, some 1.37 down, which meant that Koning was the new race leader with a six second lead.

Travis McCabe was third, followed by Peter Sagan and Mauro Richeze.

Koning also leads the KOM competition with Juan Curuchet in the Sprint Jersey and Etixx Quick Step leading the team competition.
