Next year’s Dubai Tour will have one more stage than previous years, reflecting its growing stature on the world cycling calendar. The fourth edition runs from 31 January to 4 February 2017.

Dubai, 15 October 2016 – For the first time the Dubai Tour will take place over five stages, upgraded from the four of previous editions. It’s important news for riders and fans and for the increasingly important status of the Dubai Tour which will continue the exploration of its territory and of the closest Emirates, as with the Fujairah stage in the 2016 edition.

The Dubai Sports Council’s request to the UCI to extend the next edition of the Dubai Tour by one day has been received and is now officially confirmed.

In the last three years, thanks to the participation of some of the world’s best professional cyclists - and a list of overall winners which boasts the American Taylor Phinney (2014), the Manxman Mark Cavendish (2015) and the German Marcel Kittel (2016) - the Dubai Tour has been an excellent promotional vehicle for tourism in the city and for the use of bicycles in general, now widely adopted for both leisure and transport among the local population.

H.E. Saeed Hareb, Dubai Sports Council General Secretary, said: “Seeing - literally - the growth of the Dubai Tour is a result that makes us proud and confirms once again the commitment of the UAE Cycling Federation and the Dubai Sports Council in the sport of cycling, now really popular in our Emirate. We have wanted this additional stage for a long time and for many reasons, including the riders’ requests: they were very keen to race here for longer due to the event’s high standards of organization and accommodation. In December, during the presentation of the new jerseys and the routes, we will reveal all the other innovations for the 2017 edition.”
