Warwickshire County Cricket Club had a mixed day on the opening day of their County Championship game against Somerset at Edgbaston.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat but things started better for Warwicks with Keith Barker having Nick Compton trapped lbw for six, Jeetan Patal catching a shot from Craig Jones, who had made five to give Tom Milnes a wicket and Marcus Trescothwick being caught by Clarke off the bowling of Patal after making 46, to see Somerset on 65-3.

However, star of the day was Craig Kieswetter who hit 148 including 17 fours and 3 sixes.

He may have lost James Hildreth for 33, caught by Varun Chopra off the bowling of Milnes, Alex Barrow for 43, bowled by Patal who picked up his third wicket when Trego was caught by Barker.

Just before the close, Kieswetter was caught by Tim Ambrose to give Rikki Barker a wicket. A run later and Clarke had Thomas caught by Ambrose and then had Piyush Chawla caught by Westwood as Somerset were 334/9 after 91 overs.
