Warwickshire County Cricket Club had a long day in the field on the opening day of their County Championship game with Nottinghamshire at Edgbaston.

Warwicks, who included Jonathan Trott, won the toss and put the visitors into bat.

Steve Mullaney and Phil Jaques opened the batting and put on 55 before Mullaney was out, giving a catch to Chris Woakes off the bowling of Rikki Clarke.

Alex Hales came in and worked with Jaques, pushing the total up to 146 before Trott had Jaques caught behind by Tim Ambrose after making 77.

Hales was in great form and although he lost James Taylor and Samit Patal, both caught by Ambrose off the bowling of Boyd Rankin, Hales went on to complete his century from 134 balls, hitting fifteen fours in a 119 partnership with Rikki Wessels who finally went after making 53 when Keith Barker had him caught by Will Porterfield.

Hales added another eighty three including ten fours and a six to his total but after 223 balls, the next ball from Boyd Rankin had him trapped lbw and a super innings which lasted 318 minutes was over.

Peter Siddle came in but only lasted four balls, scoring a single before Chris Wright had him caught by Varun Chopra before Notts closed on 397-7.
