La Vuelta Stage Thirteen Lucky For Conti

Valerio Conti of Lampre-Merida took the win on stage thirteen of the Vuelta a Espana.

Movistar's Nairo Quintana led the ridets out on a 213.4 kilometre long stage from Bilbao to Urdax-Dantxarinea and it was a stage which saw twelve riders in Yves Lampaert (Etixx-QuickStep, Michael Gogl (Tinkoff), Gatis Smukulis (Astana), Tom Stamsnijder (Team Giant-Alpecin), Sergey Lagutin (Katusha), Jelle Wallays (Lotto Soudal), Danilo Wyss (BMC), Vegard Stake Laengen (IAM Cycling), Valerio Conti (Lampre-Merida), Stéphane Rossetto (Cofidis), Cesare Benedetti (Bora-Argon 18), Romain Cardis (Direct Energie) go off the front.

The peloton had no concerns about those in the break and their lead increased and increased going out to 20.15 on a day where temperatures were at 35 degrees.

Over the category two Alto Aguiña and Sergey Lagutin took the points and on the category 3 Puerto Lizaieta before Valerio Conti went away and took over the lead, getting 41 seconds ahead of Lagutin, Lampaert, Wyss, Wallays and Gogl.

Conti extended that lead to a minute and was able to coast home to victory in 5.29.04, fifty five seconds ahead of Danilo Wyss, Sergey Lagutin, Vergard Stake Laengen,  Michael Gogl (Aut), Yves Lampaert, Cesare Benedetti, Jelle Wallays, Gatis Smukulis and Stéphane Rossetto.
