Kristoffer Halvorsen The New Mens U23 World Road Race Champion

Kristoffer Halvorsen (Norway) is the new Mens U23 World Road Race Champion.

The race was over a 166km course in Doha, Qatar and saw five riders go a minute clear.

They were joined by four more to comprise a break that included British rider Chris Latham and with four laps to go, their lead of what had been over three minutes was down to 2.41.

Eritrean rider Gebrezgabihier suffered a bout of cramp and was forced to pull out of the front group leaving the other eight with a lead of 1.18 with 35kms left.

Inside the final twenty kilometres and the gap ws down to less than a minute with only seven riders ahead going into the last fifteen kilometres, who were caught five kilometres later.

That meant it was a bunch sprint and it was Kristoffer Halvorsen (Norway) who took the win after avoiding a crash in the final kilometre.

German Pascal Ackermann was second with Jakub Mareczko third, followed by Bauhaus, Jansen, Lowndes, Garcia, Nommela, Dibben and Banaszek.
