Jonas Vangenechten of IAM Cycling took the win on Stage Seven of the 93rd Vuelta a Espana.

Darwin Atapuma of BMC continued in the leader's red jersey with a 28 second lead for this 158.5km stage from Maceda to Puebla de Sanabria.

After Michal Kwiatkowski abandoned the race due to back problems, a group of six in Victor Campenaerts (Lotto NL - Jumbo), Johan Le Bon (FDJ), Sander Armée (Lotto Soudal), Davide Villella (Cannondale - Drapac), Vegard Laengen (IAM Cycling) and Luis Angel Mate (Cofidis) formed on the front.

They were 3.22 when they crested the Puerto de Allariz with Mate taking the main points and 3.29 ahead with 125kms to go.

Mate took the Alto des Furnaces climb as the peloton slowly reduced the gap to 1.35 with 58kms left.

Fifteen kilometres later, the peloton, now minus Rein Taaramae (Katusha) who abandoned, had caught them.

Brambilla, Clarke, Mate, Luis Leon Sanchez, and Cataldo formed a new break and Clarke and Sanchez were able to stay away and they took an eight second lead going under the flam rouge.

There was a crash as Clarke and Sanchez were caught and IAM Cycling's Jonas Vangenechten took the win in 3.55.44 ahead of Bennati, Valverde, Gilbert and Reza.

Darwin Atapuma continues to lead the race but now only by eight seconds from Alejandro Valverde of Movistar.
