Andrew Miller took three wickets for Warwickshire County Cricket Club on the opening day of the County Championship game against Lancashire at Edgbaston.

The visitors won the toss and batted first on a reasonably pleasant day in Birmingham but had Sutton, who had hit three runs from the first ball he faced, trapped lbw by Boyd Rankin in the next ball.

Moore and Horton ticked the score over before the latter was caught by Ambrose off the bowling of Darren Maddy for 24.

Ashley Prince came in and made 51 to put on 94 for the third wicket which brought a wicket for Imran Tahir who also had the scalp of Moore who had reached 61 from 139 balls when he gave Jim Troughton a catch.

Steven Croft was proving a steadying influence for Lancashire and his unbeaten 75 ensured Lancs got all their batting points.

Andrew Miller could not get the wicket of Croft but he had Chilton caught for 39, Smith, caught by Trott for 7 and Chapple lbw for 29 as Lancashire closed on 323-8 after 96 overs.
