Hirt Wins Tour Of Austria Stage Four

CCC Sprandi Polkowice's Jan Hirt has won the fourth stage of the Tour Of Austria.

Today's stage was a 183kms Queens Stage from Rottenmann to Edelweisspitze and had Markus Eibegger (Felbermayr Simplon Wels) as the new race leader.

There was a big crash early on which took out an Astana and Gazprom rider which was followed by seven riders trying to get clear.

Antwan Tolhoek (Roompot), Alessandro Tonelli (Bardiani), Thierry Hupond (Delko Marseille), Matthias Krizek (Roth), Max Kuen (Amplatz) und David Per (Adria Mobil) got into a break and were 2.05 ahead after 28kms.

Maximilian Kuen wins the first mountain climb on the Ramsau ahead of  Antwan Tolhoek and Matthias Krizek and with a lead of three minutes, Matthias Krizek got the full points for the sprint at Wagrain ahead of  Alessandro Tonelli and Antwan Tolhoek.

Keun took the next climb at Embach and Krizek took the points on the sprint at Bruck with 25kms to go.

Gazprom sent Vanoti up the road to try and bring back the break. He was 1.25 behind with the field, which had the group of favourites in a front group, a further 3.15 behind.

Eight kilometres from the finish and the break was over and Jan Hirt put in an attack on the hors category climb leading to the finish chased by Guillaume Martin (Wanty), David Belda (Roth) and Stephano Rossetto (Cofidis).

Hirt and Belda led the way and they stayed clear with Hirt taking the win in 5:17:23, some 42 seconds head of Belda with Martin third followed by Schelling, Fernandez and Rossetto.
