Dylan Gronewegen of LottoNL-Jumbo rode to victory on the third stage of the Ster ZLM Toer.

This was a 210km stage which started and finished in Buchten and saw the peloton altogether for the first forty kilometres.

Then came the break and in it was stage two winner Wesley Kreder of Roompot, Twan VandenBrand and Jaap De Man who went away and took a lead of 4.20.

Lotto Soudal worked on the front to bring the gap down to 2.50 and then 2.10 before the peloton slowed, allowing the gap to go back out to 3.50.

Vandenbrand took the points on the Cauberg climb as the peloton led by Andre Greiplel brought the gap down to 1.40 with less than a hundred kilometres to go.

Greipel led a breakaway group and they joined De Man on the front staying clear until Wout Van Aert decided to go on a solo bid for the finish line.

He was brought back by this front group which was keeping up a steady tempo that meant a lead of 2.30.

By the time, the break crossed the finish line in Buchten for the first time, they were only 45 seconds ahead.

Peter Lenderink took the next sprint but with ten kilometres to go, the peloton had caught the break and the sprint trains took over.

Dylan Gronewegen went for the line and won easily in 5.01.15 ahead of Timothy Dupont of Veranda Willems, Sean De Bie of Lotto Soudal, Søren Kragh Andersen of Team Giant-Alpecin and Roger Kluge of IAM Cycling.

Sean De Bie takes over the lead of the race by a second from Jos Van Emden of Team LottoNl-Jumbo.
