Groenwegen Wins Tour De Yorkshire Opener

 Dylan Groenwegen of LottoNL-Jumbo has won the opening stage of the Tour De Yorkshire.

This year's race organised in conjunction with Tour De France organisers ASO, started with a 184km stage from Beverley to Settle.

Less than three hundred metres into the stage, there was a big crash which involved many riders including Sir Bradley Wiggins. Whilst this was going on, five riders and than a sixth got away.

Jens Wallays (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise), Pete Williams (One Pro Cycling), Sebastian Mora (Raleigh GAC), Matt Cronshaw (Madison Genisis), Nils Politt (Katusha), Graham Briggs (JLT Condor) were in the break and they soon had a lead of over four minutes.

Sebastian Mora took the first sprint as the lead went out to 4.12 with 122kms left on a stage where there was showers.

Through Tadcaster with a lead of 3.33 and through the feedzone at Wetherby with a lead of 3.18.

Pete Williams went away on the Cote de Greenhow, followed by Mora, Pollitt and Wallays who were still left in the break. Politt dropped Wallays and battled it out with Williams before Wallays joined them again.

Pete Williams took the KOM points but with twenty kilometres left and after some good work by Team Sky, the break for the day was over, after Sir Bradley Wiggins.

The race came down to a sprint and it was Dylan Groenwegen of LottoNL-Jumbo who took the win in 5.11.32 ahead of Caleb Ewen of Orica GreenEdge and Niclas Arndt, followed by Boudat, D Van Poppel, Gerts,  Lawless ,Domagalski, Smith and  Van Lerberghe

''Very good work from the team and the last corner I  took the lead and won'' Groenwegen said to Ned Boulting.

''It is a very nice win and good people and today we did  a good job.''
