Greipel Takes Another Giro Stage Win

Last updated : 13 May 2016 By CNS Sport

Lotto Soudal's Andre Greipel took the win on stage seven of the 99th Giro D'Italia.

What was on paper a sprinters’ stage on a 211km stage from Sulmona to Follgno, was in reality a highly demanding one.

Early on, yesterday's stage winner Tim Wellens took the lead in the King of the Mountains competition from Damiano Cunego. Then swashbuckling breakaway rider Stefan Küng made off alone and led the race for thirty of the final 35 km.

Marcel Kittel (Etixx - Quick-Step) had a puncture 7 km from the finish and was unable to participate in the sprint, leaving Greipel to claim the victory in 5.01.08 ahead of Giacomo Nizzolo of Trek-Segafredo and Sacha Modolo of Lampre - Merida.

Tom Dumoulin of Giant Alpecin continues to lead the race with a 26 second margin over Jacob Fuglsang of Astana.
