Geraint Thomas Wins Paris-Nice

Geraint Thomas of Team Sky has won the Paris-Nice race.

The seventh and final stage was 141kms long and started and finished in Nice.

Geraint Thomas of Team Sky went into the final stage with a 15 second lead and was not part of the first break of the day which featured Bono, Grmay, De Gendt, Wellens, Gautier, Impey, Kiserlovski, De la Cruz, Eiking, Herrada, Kangert, Van Baarle, Fellline, Rast, Chavanel, Duchesne, Tankink, Naesen and Sorensen.

Antoine Duchesne tool the fourth climb to ensure that he would be the race's King Of Mountains winner.

On the Cote de Veille, Alberto Contador who was fifteen seconds down on Thomas, shot away. He got to 1.45 of the six who were now out in front with Duchesne and two minutes ahead of the peloton.

Contador kept pressing despite the efforts of Team Sdky to bring him back and he got to with thirty seconds of Wellens and De La Cruz with 25kms left. Team Sky managed to reel in the Spaniard so Wellens got away.

Contador and Porte caught Wellens and were thirty free seconds ahead of Thomas.

Thomas put in a superb shift as Tim Wellens took the win ahead of Contador and finished seven seconds down to win the race overall.
