Cyclists wanting to sample the unique experience of Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle can sign up for a free Led Ride into central London on Saturday 30 July.

Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle, which is part of the world’s greatest festival of cycling led by the Mayor of London’s office, offers an eight-mile traffic-free circuit of the capital.

The route takes in the Strand and Lincoln’s Inn Fields and returns to Victoria Embankment. It passes iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral and goes south of the river with a loop over Waterloo Bridge.

To encourage riders from all over London, Prudential RideLondon has organised free Led Rides from every borough to take cyclists into the heart of the action.

The riders will be led by an experienced London Cycling Campaign leader who will cycle at a relaxed, easy pace that’s perfect for beginners.

Hugh Brasher, Prudential RideLondon Event Director, said: “The Led Rides are the perfect opportunity for anyone new to cycling, families or riders who like to be sociable to cycle into central London to enjoy everything on offer at Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle.”

As well as the eight miles of traffic-free roads to explore in Westminster and the City of London, there are also seven Festival Zones around the route offering riders a chance to stop and enjoy a huge range of free bike-based entertainment and to try out many different bike-based activities.

The Festival Zones are at Green Park, Aldwych, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, Guildhall Yard, Leadenhall Market, St Paul’s Churchyard and Southbank. Full details of what’s on where are here.

Riders signed up for a Led Ride have the option to return home on a Led Ride at 3pm or to stay behind in central London to enjoy the rest of the Prudential RideLondon entertainment on 30 July.

At 17:00, the best women cyclists in the world will be on show in the Prudential RideLondon Classique, racing on a 5.5km circuit that starts and finishes on The Mall. This UCI Women’s WorldTour event is the richest one-day race on the women’s calendar.

The Brompton World Championship Final takes centre stage at 19:15. Spectators will see the unforgettable sight of hundreds of cyclists dressed in a huge range of costumes (no Lycra allowed) sprint to unfold their Brompton and then race around St James’ Park.

The organisers of the weekend festival of cycling will deliver an extensive community engagement programme with the support of TfL, the London boroughs on the route and Surrey County Council to help residents and businesses along the route plan ahead. This will include pre-awareness campaign posters on the transport network, a series of customer information emails and a leaflet drop in July to 1 million+ residents and businesses along the route. Information on travel disruption and advice will be available on www.tfl.gov.uk/ridelondon. To avoid delays over the event weekend, all drivers are advised to avoid areas near the event routes.
