Kris Dahl of Team Silber has won the opening stage of the Larry H Miller Tour Of Utah in America.

Stage One was from Zion Canyon Village to Cedar City and due to the heat, this 134km stage started at 8am, which was a tad early for many of the World Tour teams and Pro Continental teams taking part in a field of 120 riders.

As soon as the flag dropped, four riders launched an attack which was immediately brought back.

Matteo Del Cin, SImon Pellaud, David Jaramillo, Adrian Costa and Kyle Murphy were able to get away and were four minutes ahead when they took the sprint.

Pellaud of IAM Cycling took the sprint ahead of Del Cin and Murphy of Team Jamis who dropped off the group as they started on the first climb which was a category four one.

The gap went out to 4.55 as Heinrich Haussler abandoned as Jaramillo took the climb by sprinting clear.

Over the Bristelcone climb, Jaramillo of UnitedHealthcare took the points again ahead of Costa and Del Cin as the gap dropped to 2.35.

On the descent, Pellaud and Del Cin attacked and were able to get 35 seconds clear with 25kms left and were 1.30 ahead when they started on three 4km circuits around Cedar City.

The gap was well under a minute, in fact down to twenty seconds, as they started on the second lap and with 5.4kms left, the peloton had caught and passed them.

BMC had a rider on the front as they took the bell for the final lap. Greg Daniell and Robin Carpenter had spells on the front  before Carpenter but in an attack which saw him caught with a hundred metres to go.

Kris Dahl came up and he took the win in 3.07.18 ahead of Colin Joyce of Aexeon Hagen Bemens and Rick Zabel of BMC.
