Contador Wins Vuelta A Burgos

 Alberto Contador of Tinkoff has won the Vuelta A Burgos race after a second place on the final day.

The final stage which had Gianni Meersman in the lead was a 163k queens stage from Caleruega to Lagunas de Neila.

Twenty one riders were in the first break which occured after eleven kilometres and lasted for six kilometres before being reeled in by the peloton.

A new break of Pinneau, Berlato, Fraile, Honig and I.Salas then took over going 2.40 clear with 70kms gone.

This break was joined on the alto del collado climb by Viviestre and Restrepo who took the points on the climb.

With a lead of 2.48, Salas took the Alto del Cargadero climb before their lead was whittled away by Team Sky who ensured they were caught.

Onto the final climb and Herrada, Contador, Simon Yates, Brambilla Kennaugh Pardilla , R.Fernandez, Igor Anton were leading but away went Alberto Contador of Tinkoff. However, Serge Pardillia of Caja Rural was able to get past the Spaniard and Pardilla took the win in 4.13.34.

Contador finished second and with the bonus points he was able to take the overall victory with Britain's Simon Yates fourth and Peter Kennaugh of Team Sky in fifth place.
