Guilo Ciccone of Bardiani CSF has taken the victory on the tenth stage of the Giro D'Italia.

A 219km stage from Campi Bisenzio to Sestola included Gianluca Brambilla of Etixx - Quick-Step amongst the 184 riders who started.

However, it was Movistar's Giovanni Visconti, who took the first climb of the day - the category three Passo della Collina before Team Sky's Mikel Landa was forced to abandon due to feeling unwell.

Visconti, was joined by Nicola Boem and Prezemyslaw Niemec of Lampre before Boem of Bardiani CSF dropped back to an eleven strong chasing group which caught the two escapers with seventy kilometres to go after Niemec had taken the intermediate sprint.

This group was now five minutes clear and meant that Stefan Pirazzi of Bardiani CSF was the virtual leader on the road.

With 42kms left, the gap was at 4.35 so Georg Preidler of Giant Alpecin attacked and took the intermediate sprint ahead of Pirazzi.

The Austrian opened up a lead of 28 seconds and was chased by Atapuma of BMC and then Cunego and Bonnafond as his lead over the Maglia Rosa group dropped to 3.43 with 28.3kms to go.

Priedler was caught with 17.6kms to go as Astana put the hurt in to Gianluca Brambrilla.

Pirazzia, his team mate Ciccone and Damiano Cunego took over on the front and it was Cunego who took the points on the penultimate Pain Del Falco climb with seventeen kilometres to go, to put him back in the KOM jersey.

Guilo Ciccone went off the front as Andrey Amador of Movistar chased them down and Brambrilla made it into the group containing Nibali and Valverde.

Ivan Rowny then came up and got to within 33 seconds of Ciccone whilst down the road Brambrilla dropped back again, knowing that his time in pink was over.

Ciccone, the 21 year old neo pro in his first grand tour, kept going and took the win in 5.44.32 with Ivan Rowny in second some 42 seconds down with Darwen Atapuma of BMC third.

Bob Jungels is the new race leader.
