Chris Froome Wins Vuelta a Espana Stage 19 Time Trial

Team Sky's Chris Froome rode brilliantly to win the Vuelta a Espana stage 19 time trial.

The time trial was over 37kms from Xabia to Calp and saw Svein Tuft the first down the ramp and the first home on a lovely sunny day in 52:27.

Manuele Boaro, finished in 50:03 but that was soon bettered by Campenaerts in 48.20 and Etixx-QuickStep's Yves Lampaert's who finished in 47.59 and told Eurosport: "It’s a very hard course, lots of headwind, lots of up and down, technical, and you have to keep your concentration. "I went full gas from start and did a good TT. After 19 stages, I’m happy with my time."

Tobias Ludvigsson was next to fastest finshing in 47.57 with Jonathan Castroviejo of Movistar coming home in 47.17 to take the lead by forty seconds and set a very difficult time to beat. He said to Eurosport: "I had no expectations about my time. The wind is worse now but I was still able to do myself best time. "

Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana went down the ramp and Froome, who was 3.37 down on the Colombian was 46 seconds ahead of him at the first checkpoint and thirty nine seconds ahead of the field at the second checkpoint.

Froome, the Olympic Bronze medalist in the time trial flew home and finished in 46.33 to take the stage win.

Quintana finished 2.16 down on Froome's time and now leads the race by 1.21 with two stages to go. 

Froome said: "I am happy with the result, especially this point of the season. This is my last race this season. Nairo still has one minute but we will keep fighting all the way, it will be difficult to beat him. I love the Vuelta and racing in Spain. I love the challenge against going head to head against your rivals. "
