Coventry born Ian Bell survived an early drop to hit his second century this season on the opening day of Warwickshire's County Championship game at Nottinghamshire.

Warwicks batted first at Trent Bridge and had Will Porterfield make the early runs as Varun Chopra and Laurie Evans lost their wickets cheaply.

Porterfield was out for 56 being caught and bowled by Mullaney, which left Ian Bell to come in and take control.

It was a good job that Bell did just that as Javid went for a duck. Ambrose went for six, Woakes for 27, Barker for nine and Patal for five.

Bell hit some great shots to bring up his century off 136 balls in 189 minutes and including sixteen fours and a six.

The England international had moved his total on to 122 from 201, having hit another six, Bell became Andy Carter's fourth victim when he was bowled.

Carter, soon had Chris Wright caught for two, to give him figures of 5-55 as Warwicks were all out for 263.

When the home side batted, Chris Wright had Jaques trapped lbw for two and Mullaney caught by Bell to reduce Notts to 7-2.

Ten runs later and Keith Barker bowled Lumb for one and in the next over, Wright took his third wicket of the game, when he trapped James Taylor lbw.

In the 19th over, Oliver Hannon-Dalby had Riki Wessels trapped lbw and two overs later, Patel had Flether run out to leave Notts on 43-6 at stumps.
