Warwickshire County Cricket Club bowler Chris Woakes recorded a career best bowling figure of 7-20 as Warwicks skittled out Hampshire for 141 runs on the opening day of their County Championship match.

Hants had made 35 runs before Ian Westwood caught Jimmy Adams for 17 off the bowling of Clarke, then with the score on 48, Warwicks struck taking four wickets without a run being added to.

Chris Woakes had Carberry caught and McKenzie lbw and Dawson fell to Clarke the same way before Woakes had Vince caught.

Woakes was involved with the sixth wicket which came when he caught Bates who had made a single.

Ervine and Mascaranhas moved the score from 57-6 to 121 before Woakes got them both out.

Wood added eighteen but he was Woakes sixth victim and when Troughton caught former Warwicks bowler Imran Tahir without scoring, the Edgbaston crowd were celebrating figure of 7-20 for Woakes and Hants all out for 141.

In reply, Tomlinson had Ian Westwood trapped lbw for eight. Chopra and Porterfield pushed the score on to 48 before the latter was caught and Shivnarnie Chanderpaul went for one.

Varun Chopra had made 55 when he was Tomlinson's second victim and when bad light ended the days play, Warwicks were on 96/4.
