Coventry born cricketer Ian Bell suffered a broken metatarsal today when playing for England in their One Day International defeat to Bangladesh.

Bell, who made 84 on Thursday for England. fractured a metatarsal in his foot after going for a catch in the tenth over and told BBC Sport:"I knew I'd done something serious. "I went up for a catch and felt pain as soon as I landed.

"I had worked very hard to get back into the England squad and had been feeling in excellent touch over the last few matches.

"It's up to me to work closely with the medical staff at the National Performance Centre and Warwickshire on a rehabilitation programme that will get me back playing as quickly as possible."

Bell returned from hospital on crutches and as a last resort, padded up and limped out. He did not face a ball as England set 237 to win and needing six to win, lost by five runs when Warwickshire's Jon Trott who had made 94 was out.

The next game is at Edgbaston on Monday.
