Aru Takes Criterium du Dauphine Stage Three Win

Fabio Aru of Astana rode to victory on stage three of the Criterium du Dauphine.

A 182km stage from Boën-sur-Lignon to Tournon-sur-Rhône.started with Niki Terpstra, Thomas de Gendt and Dimitri Claeys getting away and after five kilometres, they were ahead by thirty seconds.

That went out to six minutes but after 91kms, they were just 2:25 clear as Niki Terpstra took the one point on offer on the Côte de Montfaucon-en-Velay climb.

Thomas de Gendt took the next climb - the Col du Rouvey but with the peloton closing in, Terpstra took off but he was caught by De Gendt, Gautier and Claeys with 38kms left.

Twelve kilomtres later and the break was over and Tony Martin of Etixx Quick Step attacked.

Fabio Aru worked with Rolland and Grmay and after Sanchez had got up to Martin, he made the most of Martin misjudging a corner with 5kms left.

Aru was fourteen seconds clear going under the flam rouge and tookd the win in  4:19:54, two seconds ahead of Alexander Kristoff who lead the peloton home.

Alberto Contado keeps his lead in the race.
