Armitstead Takes Women's Tour Stage Three

Lizzie Armitstead of the Boels Dolmans team has won the third stage of the of Aviva Women's Tour and taken over the lead of the race with two stages to go.

A 109.6km stage from Asbourne to Chesterfield with Marieanne Vos in the race lead for this stage in the Peak District.

Into Buxton for the first sprint of the day and it was Vos, who was also the points leader who took the points on offer ahead of Leah Kirchman.

There were a couple of abandonments as first a group of six and then a group of eleven riders tried to break clear.

That succeded and they were forty five seconds ahead descending into Youlgreave and 1.55 by the time they reached Matlock.

Knetemann (RBW) took the second sprint as three chasers including Lizzie Armitstead went after the escapers and caught them to form a fourteen rider group which comprised of .Barnes, DHoore, Blaak, Slik, Hall, Spratt, Koppenburg, Brand, Knetemann, Ensing, Ratto, Longo- Borghini, Moolman and Armitstead.

Hall beat Spratt to the second QOM at Bank Road, Matlock before Longo-Borghini, Armitstead, Spratt and Moolman-Pas took off inside the last fifteen kilometres, taking a 23 second gap into the final ten kilometres.

Sprat set up the sprint but it was Lizzie Armitstead who rode away to take the victory ahead of Moolman-pasio, Longo borghini, Spratt and Marieanne Vos. 

The win means that Lizzie Armitstead, who was already the Adnams Brewery's Top British rider is now the race leader witn a five second lead over Moolman-pasio.
