76 For Botha As Warwicks All Out

Warwickshire County Cricket Club were all out for 294 on the opening day of their County Championship game with Kent at Edgbaston.

Warwicks batted first after winning the toss and made 31 before Varun Chopra who had made 24 was trapped lbw.

Skipper Ian Westwood was next to go when he was caught after making 14, before Jim Troughton, Darren Maddy and Rikki Clarke all went for disappointingly low scores.

That left Warwicks on 74-5 in the 31st over and twelve overs later, Laurie Evans and Richard Johnson were both out.

Ant Botha came in and along with Chris Woakes added sixty runs to the total before Woakes was the eighth player to lose his wicket when he was bowled by Tredwell.

Neil Carter went for six, leaving Botha and Imran Tahir at the crease. The pair put on 118 for the final wicket before Botha was out for 76 caught by Jones. Tahir finished not out on 69 as Warwicks innings was ended on 294.

When Kent batted, Denly was bowled first ball by Chris Woakes. Captain Robert Key only lasted two balls before he was bowled by Woakes and he followes that up by taking the wicket of Cook who had made nine in the seventh over.

Kent ended the day on 37-3.
