Yorkshire Make Formal Bid For 2016 TDF

A number of outlets are reporting that Yorkshire have made a formal bid to stage Le Grand Depart of the 2016 Tour De France.

Britain, last staged the depart in 2007 with a prologue in London, followed by a stage from London to Kent and made around £88m from hosting the event which this year will be in Liege, Belgium.

Yorkshire's bid which is reported to include a stage between Sheffield and Leeds has been submitted by the 'Welcome to Yorkshire' tourism authority to Tour De France organisers Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO),

Soctland, Barcelona, Venice and Berlin are also reported as being interested in stage the start of the 2016 race.
