Sir Bradley Wiggins is the new British National Time Trial champion.

Wiggins took the title on a twenty six mile course in the rain around the Celtic Manor Golf Course and Hotel complex, near Newport beating

Jason Bouttell from Velopro was the first man to start and finish with a time of 1 hour 42 seconds and quickly saw his time beaten by Russell Hampton with a time of 59.16 and Mark Christian who went into the lead with a time of 58.12.

James McLaughlin went fastest with a time of 57.16 before David Millar of Garmin-Sharp pulled out and Sir Bradley Wiggins and last year's winner Alex Dowsett went down the ramp.

Wiggins was fastest at the first split whilst at the finish line, Luke Rowe who will compete for Wales in the Commonwealth Games set a new fastest time of 56.55.

Then, Rowe's Team Sky team mate and fellow countryman who will also be in the Welsh team in Glasgow, finished in 55.04.

The battle was on and Wiggins was quicker. The former holder of the both British Time Trial and Road Race titles, stormed home in 53.56 and with Dowsett, only able to finish in 55.17, Sir Bradley Wiggins became the new British champion.
