Tony Martin won the third stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné this afternoon but Bradley Wiggins pulled on the leaders yellow and blue jersey.

Stage 3 today was a 42.5km time trial around Grenoble and saw HTC Highroad's Tony Martin (pictured below) set the fastest time of 55.28 beating Team Sky's Edvald Boasson Hagen.

Geraint Thomas came in fourth fastest a minute and thirty five seconds behind Tony Martin's time, whilst British Time Trial Champion Bradley Wiggins (Pictured below) took to the road.

Roared on by Shaun Yeats in his team car, Wiggins was faster than Martin at the 27.5km stage and two minutes and eleven seconds faster than yellow jersey man man Alexander Vinokourov.

Nicholas Roche came home in a time of 58.40 but attention was on Wiggins and he finished in a time of 55.38, some eleven seconds behind Tony Martin who took the stage with Geraint Thomas finishing up seventh.

Wiggins second place was enough to put in the leaders yellow and jersey of a race won by Robert Millar in 1990 and he leads Cadel Evans by one minute and eleven seconds. Geraint Thomas is sixth 2.25 back..

Tony Martin said after the race to Eurosport: "It was a hard course, technical in the wet but I found a good rhythm. This means a lot to me but I'll have to go a little bit faster in Le Tour."

Stage four tomorrow is from La Motte-Servolex - Mâcon and is 173.5km long.
