Warwickshire County Cricket Club failed to make the most of their early progress on the opening day of their opening County Championship game against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Hampshire batted first and were soon in trouble when Tim Ambrose caught Carberry, who had made three, to give Keith Barker a wicket with only four runs on the board.

Alsop came in but had only made one run when he too was caught by Ambrose to give Barker a second wicket.

Barker's third wicket came with the score on seventeen when he had Smith caught by Sam Hain for a duck.

The home side moved the score onto fifty but they lost another wicket when Hain caught Vince, who had made 25, from a Rankin delivery.

Back came Barker to remove Ervine lbw for four and then Dawson who had made twenty also lbw and see Hampshire on 59-6.

Ryan McLaren was putting up some resistance and whilst Ricky Clarke had Wheater trapped lbw for seven and Chris Woakes bowled Topley for fifteen, McLaren was 84 not out and Hampshire on 189.8 when play when held up for bad light after 75.2 overs and at 6pm stumps were drawn.
