Warwickshire County Cricket Club were all out for 180 on the opening day of their County Championship game with Sussex at Hove.

Warwicks batted first and were up against Oliver Robinson who took figures of 6-33 from thirteen overs (four maidens).

Robinson removed Westwood for 13, Chopra for 16, Javid for 2, Evans for 6 and Ambrose for a duck to see Warwicks on 76-5.

With the score on one hundred, Robinson had Ricky Clarke caught by Finch before Jon Trott was bowled in the next over for 35 by Jordan.

Steve Magoffin came in and had Patal out for 16, Barker for 24 and when he bowled Boyd Rankin for six, Warwicks were all out for 180 in 49 overs.

Sussex made forty six runs when Ricky Clarke had Nash caught by Chopra.

Ed Joyce came in but only made nine when he gave Tim Ambrose his 500th first class catch to give Keith Barker a wicket.

Enter Jeetan Patal who bowled Finch for twelve, had Wright stumped by Ambrose for a duck and Craig Cachopa caught by Clarke for two to see Sussex on 129-5.

Sussex ended the day on 140-5, some forty runs behind.

Tim Ambrose told Brian Owen about the game: "It looks like a result game. It is who can pinch the most runs before they get out. "The wicket looks like it is not going to get a lot better.

"We thought we would get first use and see what it does later in the game.

"Jeets (Jeetan Patel) is a big player for us. He hasn’t had much opportunity for us this year because we have played on green seamers.

"That one gave him just enough to keep the batsmen guessing. "It’s good for him to get into his season. He has been a bit deprived.

"I think we tallied up about 52 plays-and-misses in our innings and there were about 100 in the day. "So I think all bowlers could consider themselves a little unlucky!

"Wells scrapped had for his runs for them and Trotty did the same for us."
