Blanco's Robert Wagner has won the Ster ZLM Toer Prologue in Goes.

Mark Cavendish was back to defend his title in this five stage race held in Holland and the opening stage was an 8km prologue around Goes, some 82.3 miles from Amsterdam.

At 6pm local time, Rob Peeters was the first rider down the ramp and finished the course in a time of 10.27.

Not surprisingly, it was beaten with Andre Greipel the first man to go under ten minutes with a time of 9.53.

Lars Boom then came home in a time of 9.46, the same time as British rider Andy Fenn but seconds later in came Blanco's Robert Wagner with a time of 9.39.

Down to the final thirty riders and Wagner's time was holding in the pouring rain.

No-one got near the Blanco rider's time including Mark Cavendish who, had been the last to go, with the Omega Pharma Quick Step sprinter setting a time of 9.58  and Wagner was able to celebrate his win.

Top five; 1. Robert Wagner 9:39, 2. Lars Boom 9:42, 3. Tobias Ludvigsson 9:43, 4. Marcel Kittel 9:45, 5. Andrew Fenn 9:46
