Liquigas rider Elia Viviani won the fourth stage of the US Pro Cycling Challenge.

This was a stage from Avon to Steamboat Springs and saw Stefan Denifl, Javier Acevido, Rubens Bertoglati, Vlad Efimkin and Christian Montoya break away after twenty miles of racing.

They kept up a pace of 45km/h as Team Exergy and Liquigas led the peloton before they reached the intermediate sprint which Stefan Denifl won.

Montoya was dropped and the quartet went it alone before the race went to its first left and right hand turns for 74 miles.

With a kilometre to go, it was anybody's race and in a bunch sprint, Elia Viviani beat Michael Morkow and Kenny Van Hummel to win in a time of two hours and 53 mins.

Levi Leipheimer retains his leader's jersey as American riders hold the top five positions.

Tomorrow's stage is from Steamboat Springs to Breckenridge
