Marcel Kittel has said that his victory in the Scheldeprijs meant a lot.

Speaking after his win in the 200km classic race which finished in Schoten, the German sprinter told the Giant Shimano press office: "It really means a lot for me to win here for the third time, especially after a superb job by my teammates. Everyone was looking to us today so it wasn't easy to defend the race but we did it.

"I knew that I could go early at the end as we had a tailwind. My plan was to jump 280m from the line and after perfect preparation for the sprint this was made possible.

"We showed today that we are one of the top teams - we stayed calm and finished the job perfectly. This is a special race for me and to be in the history books is a nice feeling."
