Vichot Wins Criterium Du Dauphine Stage 5

FDJ'S Artur Vichot won the fifth stage of the Criterium Du Dauphine this afternoon.

A 186.5km stage from Saint-Trivier-sur-Moignans to Rumilly saw speeds of 48kmph for the opening hour in sunny weather for the riders minus Luke Durbridge plus two Garmin riders, Kobe and two non-finshers from yesterday.

One group got away but were brought back by a second group comprising of Fofanov (Astana), Losada (Katusha), Reza (Europcar), Cayetano (Liquigas), Di Gregorio (Cofidis), Martinez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Vichot (FDJ-BigMat), Navarro (Saxo Bank), Jeandesboz (Saur-Sojasun) and Mederel (Saur-Sojasun).

A second group containing Cadel Evans, George Hincapie and Nibali were a minute ahead of the peloton containing race leader Bradley Wiggins as they approached the Col de Richmonde after having rode over the big climb of the Colombier.

The Team Sky riders including Wiggins and Chris Froome who had riden well in the yesterday's time trial which Wiggins won, closed down on first the group containing Evans and then the front group of escapers.

The gap had dropped to 31 seconds with 40kms to go as Maxime Mederel went off the front.

Olympic Champion Luis Leon Sanchez lead a group which were 26 seconds ahead of the peloton.

With 8kms to go, Daniel Navarro went away. Artur Vichot chased him down and then took the lead.

He kept going and won in a time of 4.42.17 ahead of Martinez and Fofofnov.

Bradley Wiggins finished a minute and seven seconds back just behind Cadel Evans and keeps his leaders jersey.
