Vasili Kiryienka Takes Penultimate Giro Stage

Vasili Kiryienka won the 20th and penultimate stage of the Giro D'Italia this afternoon.

A long stage saw the race past through Turin on its way to Sestriere which first staged host the Giro one hundred years ago.

Yaroslav Popovych (RadioShack), Kevin Seeldraeyers (Quick Step), Eduaord Vorganov (Katusha), Angel Vicioso (Androni), Frederik Veuchelen (Vacansoleil), Luca Mazzanti (Farnese Vini), Josep Jufre (Astana), Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar), Sebastian Lang (Omega Pharma-Lotto), Cristiano Salerno (Liquigas), Diego Ulissi (Lampre), Carlos Betancourt (Acqua & Sapone) and Miguel Minguez (Euskaltel) were the early breakers.

Then with 40kms to go, Movistar's Vasili Kiryienka broke away and stayed clear to win in a time of 6hr, 17 mins  and 2 seconds.

José Rujano came in second four minutes and forty three seconds back with Joaquim Rodriquez third.

Going into tomorrow's shortened final stage around Milan, Alberto Contador has a five minute and eighteen seconds lead over Michele Scarponi..
