Van Garderen One Stage Away From Amgen Tour Of California Win

Tejay Van Garderen is now one stage away from winning the Amgen Tour Of California after NetApp-Endura's Leopald Konig won the seventh stage.

The BMC rider allowed Michael Rogers to gain no time on his General Classification lead of 1.47 during the 147.1km stage from Livermore to Mt Diablo.

A stage of the three climbs including the mountain finish at Mt Diablo saw  Bob Jungels (RadioShack), Rohan Dennis (Garmin-Sharp), Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM), Ben Jacques-Maynes (Jamis-Hagens Berman), Robert Sweeting (5-hour Energy/Kenda), Bartosz Huzarski (NetApp-Endura) and Michael Morkov (Saxo-Tinkoff) in the first attack.

They were soon caught and Juan Antonio Flecha and Lieuwe Westra went off the front. Westra attacked on his but before the first climb on Morgan Terrority, he was caught and King of the Mountain leader Carter Jones of the Bissell team took the full points.

Andy Schleck (RadioShack), Melgarejo De la Cruz (NetApp-Endura), Carter Jones (Bissell), Laurent Didier (RadioShack), Quintanilla Verona (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), and Kristijan Koren (Cannondale).took over on the descent.It was a descent that saw several riders crash but they all were able to carry on.

Chris Butler of Champion Systems, Nathan Brown (Bontrager) and Nathaniel English (5-hour Energy).caught up to the escapers to form a ten man group. which still 3.20 clear with 75kms to go.

Carter Jones took the second climb at Patterson Pass, before Koren took the intermediate sprint at Livermore.

Onto the Mt.Diablo climb and Westra, Schleck and Carlos Verona went on the attack.

Westra stayed away and was joined by de la Cruz and inside the final five kilometres, Francesco Mancebo.

With three kilometres remaining, Janier Acevedo made his move in the sunshine and got past everyone to take over at the front. The Jamis-Hagens Berrman rider went looking for the win but he could not hold off Leopald Konig who got past him and took the win.in 3.54.18 ahead of Acevedo, Tejay van Garderen (BMC) and Michael Rogers (Saxo-Tinkoff).
