Race leader Teejay Van Garderen won the Amgem Tour Of California Time Trial in San Jose.

The stage might have finished in a park but it was no walk in one, as the course was a tough 31.6kms of pretty much flat roads which included a climb on Metcalf Road before finishing in Motor Cycle Park.

The riders minus David Zabriskie who had crashed in practice and Jonathan Cantwell who did not finish Stage Five won by Jens Voigt, took to the course and Bissell's Jason McCartney  was one of those to post the  fastest time of 53:11.

Travis Meyer of the Orica-GreenEdge beat that with a time of 51:30 before Thomas De Gendt went quicker with a time of 51.09, then the next rider home - Cannondale's Kristijan Koren finished in a time of 50.58.

That was smashed by Omega Pharma Quick Step's Rohan Denis who finished in a time of 49.20.

At 3.02pm local time, race leader Teejay Van Garderen went down the ramp.

Whilst he was on the road, Lieuwe Westra set the new fastest time, knocking five seconds off Denis' time. However, Teejay Van Garderen got the hammer down and won in a time of 48.50 and now leads Michael Rogers by a minute and 47 seconds with two stages remaining.

Emily Stephens won the Women's race with a time of 55.49
