"You'll have to ask them", was the response from the Team Europcar sporting director Jean -Rene Bernaudeau at a press conference at the Country Hall in Liege which is being used as a media centre for the start of the 99th edition of the Tour to some tough questions from some French journalists. Bernaudea, who admiited only hearing about the story at 8.55pm local time on Wednesday night also said that he would be speaking to the journalist responsible for the story.

Thomas Vockler, probably the only Frenchman in with a chance of winning the race  which starts in Liege on Saturday, said at the press conference: "That it was not nice that rumours were being spread about his team-mates but I have a good night's sleep but after my knee injury, I'm looking forward to the race."
