The Maillot Jaune Is Special - Froome

Chris Froome has said that the Maillot Jaune is special after he won the 102nd Tour De France in Paris.

Froome said In his acceptance speech which is part of receiving the yellow jersey on the podium in Paris: “Of course I want to thank my team mates with you I would not be here. This is your yellow jersey as much as it is mine. Thanks to the support staff, my coach, manager David Brailsford and my wife Michelle and my baby boy who is on the way.

“The Maillott Jaune is special. “I understand its history - good and bad I will never dishonour it, always respect it and be proud that I have won it.”

“I am very happy because this year was a hard fight,” said Green Jersey winner Peter Sagan of Tinkoff Saxo.

“My role in the team was different and I am happy that I did not crash and I am happy with what I did in this race.

It was very nice experience to ride with Alberto Contador and I had a lot of fun in the team and in the race which was a very nice Tour De France for me.”

Movistar's Alejandro Valverde finished on the podium in third place overall and said to Eurosport: "It is an unbelievable and emotional day and. It was lovely to see my family and for them to see me on the podium.

"Working for Nairo helped me this year and I hope to be on the podium again next year.”

Andrei Greipel of Lotto Soudal has had an excellent race and after taking victory on the final stage, he said:“It is amazing and what I always dreamed of. “I want to thank everyone involved in my career.

This is most awesome place to win a bike race and I am so pleased to have won today.”
