TDF Lead Could Change Every Day In First Week - Cavendish

.Mark Cavendish feels that the Yellow Jersey could change shoulders every day for the first week of the Tour De France which starts in Porto Vecchio on Saturday.

 

Cavendish told around 300 members of the world's press at an Omega Pharma Quick Step Press Conference: "The winner of the first day sprint could lose it on the second stage. "Such is the nature of this race, we could the yellow jersey change shoulders every day in the first week."

 

Cavendish, the new British Champion who has pledged to do the British jersey justice, has yet to win a Yellow Jersey in any of his previous six Tour De France's and said: "The Yellow Jersey is one of iconic symbols in sport and it is something that I have always dreamed of wearing."

 

The Manx Missile has had a team built around him which is a mixture of experience in Gert Steegmans and World Time Trial champion Tony Martin and says his Omega Pharma Quick Step team, which are Belgium based, are a well rounded team who can meet the many challenges of the race.

 

Speaking about the roads which are proving a worry to many a rider, Cavendish said: "The roads could be dangerous. The start of the Tour is always nervous with everyone fresh. "I hope everyone stays safe but there could be accidents."
