Swift Third In Mallorca Challenge

British rider Ben Swift was third in the Trofeo Palma this afternoon.

The first race in the Mallorca Challenge was competed by for a strong field which included the likes of 2012 Tour De France winner Bradley Wiggins who has been doing some of his winter training in the Spanish island.

Perrig Quemeneur (Europcar) and Fran Moreno (Caja Rural) got away from the field in a race which is held on an 11.6km course around Mallorca's main city.

Their lead of four minutes was eventually pulled back by the peleton and the traditional bunch sprint ensued with Lotto Bellisol's Kenny Dehaes winning in a time of 2.39.07 ahead of Garmin-Sharp's Tyler Farrar and Team Sky's Ben Swift.

The placings for the rest of the British riders were Alex Peters riding for Madison Genesis finished 23rd with team-mate Dean Downing 30th, Team Sky's Alex Dowsett 61st, Liam Hoolahan 95th, Chris Snook 127th, Brennan Townsend 141st, Bradley Wiggins 161, Jonathan Tiernan-Locke 163, Ian Bibby 164th and Seb Bayliss 172nd.
