Swift Second on Bayern-Rundfahrt Opener

Team Sky's Ben Swift finished second on the opening stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt.

This five stage tour started in Bavaria, north of Munich with a 193.8km stage from Pfaffenhofen to Muhldorf and attracted a quality field.

Having dealt with the the second category Schweitenkirchen climb and t, crossing the Isar river through Landshut and over another second categoty climb after 110kms, the action started when those who had escaped and taken a three minute lead were caught leaving Grische Janorschke out front on his own.

He was caught with five kilometres to go and at speeds of 60kmph, it came down to a bunch sprint wihch saw Alex Rasmussen win beating Ben Swift and Juan Jose Lobato.

Team Sky's Geraint Thomas finished eighth.
