Steven Kruijswijk Wins Arctic Race Of Norway

Steven Kruijswijk has won the Arctic Race Of Norway.

Belkin's Steven Kruijswijk had an eight second lead over team mate Lars Petter Nordhaug going into the final 165km stage which started and finished in Tromsø.

Nine riders in Belkov , Fouchard, Van Hecke , Sljmens , Evrard , Pillon, Røinås , Jensen and Gjølberg were on the front from the start and it was August Jensen, who was first at the top of Kattfjordeidet summit ahead of  Van Hecke and Evrard after twenty kilometres.

Amid more beautiful scenary which is a feature of this race in its second edition, the nine out front extended their lead to 1.55

After the first intermediate sprint, the gap was 1.45 but the peloton worked together and it was down to only forty seconds when Van Hecke was dropped and back in the bunch and by the time of the feedzone with 84kms gone, there was only six riders in Belkov, Fouchard, Sijmens, Evrard, Røinas and Jensen, who were left out front with a 39 second lead.

They were caught and Andreas Vangstad attacked only to be caught with sixty kilometres to go.

Edward Theuns went off on his own but he was brought back and Jan Barta took the intermediate sprint.

Marcus Faglum Karlsson was the next to chance his arm on the front before British rider Scott Twaites of Team Net App and BMC's Seb Lander launched a raid with two laps of a five lap finishing circuit left.

They led by seventeen seconds with 11.3kms to go and were caught before Martin Elmiger took the final climb of the race and the final 8.15km lap started.

Vlijgen of BMC went off the front in what was expected be Thor Hushovd's last ever race.

With 1.6kms to go, Hushovd of BMC attacked but was caught with 25 metres to go and Alexander Kristoff of Katusha took the win in 3.42.08 ahead of Hushovd and Irish man Sam Bennett.

Steven Kruijswijk finished safely and won the race overall with a four second lead over Kristoff.

Norwegian Kristoff said to Eurosport: " I had to go with 500ms to go but with 200ms and I was really I could happy I could pass Thor Hushovd. If I can do what he has done in his career then I will be happy. This has been a great race and three wins for the team is good."
